The Abia State House of Assembly has evaluated its efforts in complementing the State Government’s effort in fighting the outbreak of Coronavirus in the state.
This is as Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had during a press briefing on Monday, revealed that some results of samples sent for testing confirmed 5 new cases of COVIS-19.
A statement issued on Tuesday, by Jude Ndukwe, the Chief Press Secretary to the Abia Speaker, Hon. Chinedum Orji, highlighted that members of the State Assembly had embarked on sensitization of constituents on steps to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Other measures taken by the Abia legislature according to the statement, included sensitisation and awareness creation on COVID-19.
“Abia State Lawmakers who are members of the State COVID-19 Committee have featured in radio programmes to give updates about the works of the committee.
“Palliative materials provided by members of the Abia State House of Assembly include hundreds of bags of food items distributed to the needy and vulnerable in their respective constituencies through churches, mosques, charity organizations, communities, women and youth groups etc.
The statement further quoted the Abia Assembly as assuring that with the continued efforts and close collaboration among all Arms of Government in Abia, the State will certainly come out victorious in her fight against COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Nigeria on Monday recorded 216 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, (NCDC) said with this development, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria has risen to 6175.
